Kids are natural Entrepreneurs

Aug 09, 2022

Kids are natural entrepreneurs. I remember asking a neighbor to babysit her son when I was in the fourth grade, thinking that I would make money while playing with her son. Over the last few months slime has been super famous; my daughter has purchased bracelets, my sister has sold painted shells, and of course, kids in my neighborhood have been selling lemonade. Like many your age, kids don’t understand that supplies are not free and when they count up all the money at the end, it’s not all profit.

Because of this, I wrote a book that includes interviews with successful kids that you can relate to and be inspired. Not only is it a fun read but it also teaches you the very basics of running a business. In “Dream, Dare, Do: A Guide to Exploring the Kidpreneur In Us All,” the Kidpreneurs share their experience and all the issues that even adults deal with. These issues include:

  • How to price a product?
  • How to deal with competition?
  • What to do when you are working harder than your partner?
  • How to create marketing materials that work?

Regardless of what job(s) you have when you get older, an entrepreneurial spirit will serve you well. You will be able to achieve more sales because you can think of different ways to sell. You will be able to analyze a balance sheet and reconcile a bank statement. At the beginning of this article, I shared a story about how I attempted to start my first business babysitting. It did not work out too well, but at least I tried. It was not my parent’s idea to babysit to make money; I just knew that to earn I had to work. You too are a natural Entrepreneur. Thought about selling Slime? You’re an Entrepreneur. Thought about selling Lemonade? You’re an Entrepreneur. Thought about tutoring classmates struggling in Math? You’re an Entrepreneur. You’re a natural, and it comes to you!
